Yesterday I headed south to Lawton.  It just happened to be Ann’s birthday and Skrappy meeting night.  Arrived in Lawton early so I headed over to Quilt ‘N Bee.  Visited with Beverly, found some fabrics for applique, and purchased some new straight pins to replace the ones that always seem to disappear into thin air.

I was treating Ann to dinner for her birthday.  We met at Olive Garden and surprisingly got seated right away.  Of course everything went downhill from there.  Our drinks arrived after we had finished our salad, then we waited an unusually long time for our pizzas.  We start eating, and I mention that my pizza is really salty.  The more bites I took the saltier it got.  Then we noticed all the salt on the serving platters, so when the waitress came by we told her that she might want to mention to the cook that he was a little heavy handed with the salt.  Waitress returns and says that manager is sorry and to make it up to us we could have free dessert.  Then the manager comes by, talks to us about the salty pizza, sees all the salt and also that we didn’t just make a complaint and still eat the pizzas, but that we didn’t eat much of it.  So he doesn’t charge us for our meals and we still got free dessert.  Geez Ann, you’re a cheap date.

After dinner we headed off to the Skrappies meeting, it sure was good to see everyone there.  I really needed to be with old friends that share the same interests.   The super secret sewing room project was unveiled.  You know, I kept mentioning all the time I was spending in the sewing room and didn’t have anything to show for it.  I was assembling all of the farewell friendship blocks that the Skrappies made for Ann, who is moving to Tennessee.

I had a good time at the quilt show on Saturday.  Got to visit and catch up with old friends and acquaintances, see some beautiful quilts and of course, visit the vendors.
I miss all the people in the quilt guild and stitching groups I attended while living in Lawton.  With the moving and not feeling well I haven’t gotten out to find any groups in this area.  I have the Skrappy Ladies spring retreat to look forward to in April.  For retreat I need to get busy cutting more fabric strips and make some snowman blocks to swap.

There was a vendor at the quilt show with a good selection of Angelina Fibers and many other “art quilt” supplies.  Lots of inks, dyes and paintsticks.  I bought several small packs of the fibers in different colors and a set of rubbing plates.  The plates can be used for rubbings, for adding texture to polymer clay and probably a few other things I haven’t thought of yet.  The color of the Angelina Fibers changes according to light reflection and the amount of heat used to fuse them.  There are two that look Dk Blue in the picture, but one is actually Dk Purple.  Of the two Lt Blue, one is crinkle cut instead of straight and it picks up the light differently.

Again, I had a great time Saturday, but I paid for it yesterday.  Woke up tired, ate breakfast, took meds and went back to bed until about 3:30pm.  Back to bed at 10:30 (early for me).  At first I thought I was coming down with something, but I really think I just overdid it.  Today I feel a lot better.  The sun is shining and the temperature is supposed to be in the 60’s, a good day to sit on the patio for a while and get some fresh air.

I realized that my prescriptions need to be refilled.  So I have to drive to Ft. Sill today.  This should be my last medically related trip down there.  We are getting a new primary care Dr. here in OKC next week.  I wanted to wait until this lung thing was pretty much taken care of.  It’s so much easier to get referrals when you have one Dr. that’s been in on everything from the beginning.

I may drop by Hancocks while I’m in Lawton and see who’s there.  Then head back.  I’m still unpacking and organizing the sewing/craft room.  (Notice I added craft)  It’s coming together, but can you believe I haven’t even started on the fabric yet?  Have a long way to go before the room is ready for producing any projects.  When I start organizing the fabric I want to cut strips for the “Strip Swap” at the same time.  The Skrappy Ladies (my quilt group) are doing Strip/String quilts at our spring retreat in April.  The majority of us are making scrap quilts, so everyone is bringing precut strips to swap.

I had to start over on knitting Jason’s hat.  I made a mistake while trying to do the jogless stripe and was frogging back to start over.  I pulled on the wrong piece of yarn and suddenly had a big mess.  Since it’s such a fast and easy knit I just decided to start over.  Now I’m back to where I was originally, and the stripes actually meet and don’t jog.

I need to get off the computer and on the road………..
